So Grown Up, Yet So Small Too...

So today was a busy day filled with cleaning and playing and stuff and things. We had a ward BBQ at the Church-house 3 doors down, and the kids got covered with tiny grains of gritty sand while playing in the wet volleyball pit with all the other primary children. So fun! :D At home Michael went into one bathroom to keep himself busy, and I went into another one to get the bath ready for my sand plastered little ones. When I came out I called our Emma for a splish-splash, and Megan yells,"No, Mom! Emma's......" . I couldn't exactly hear what she was saying so I finished taking the last two steps around the hall and asked,"What?" I saw Megan had thrown Emma over her knee with her head lower than her body and was pounding on her back. A puddle of vomit was under Emma's face. Megan said again,"Emma was choking! I heard her crying as she was walking over to me, and when I asked her what was wrong, she made this horrible sound like she was choking. I grabbed her and put her over my knee and couldn't remember exactly how to pound on her back, so I just started pounding however I could to get it out. Then I saw her throw up, and I saw the candy, but I just kept patting just in case." That is exactly when I walked out and saw the situation as it stood.
What a lucky mom I am! My 9 year old just saved our 2 year old! She did what she knew to do! She was scared, but she did it! I'm so glad I taught her how to do that, and I'm glad she remembered what to do! I have no doubt that angels helped her remember. I reminded the older kids not to give the baby hard candy, and praised Megan again for her quick thinking and assessment of the situation. When I told her dad what she did, he gave her the same praise and a huge high-5!
Two happy sisters!
Later on I was walking past Megan in the hall and she had both her arms out at wierd angles. When I asked her what she was doing, she said she was just leading an imaginary horse and sheep around me to her room. I started to laugh. Grown up enough one minute to save her sister from death, and still small enough the next minute to be imagining. What a perfect age. I'm such a lucky mom to have the kids I do. And that's just Lems life!
