Physical Maladies for a New Year.

Well, this is another year. A new year. I was so excited for this new year to start and leave last year in it's place. But so far this year, everyone has gotten into some kind of "painful" trouble. Here's the lowdown:

Michael - Pulled a muscle/tendon/ligament in his back or thigh which has  caused problems in work, sleep, getting dressed...you know, all those little necessary things we do every day. He is being the man that he wants to be and won't let me help him at all. Poor guy. I hope he gets better soon.
Adelle - I had a cold that I caught right after Christmas that was so awful it kept me down for about 3 weeks. I'm talking throbbing, stuffed, dizzy, flu-like symptoms. Not fun. Just as I was recovering, I recaught it from my own lip gloss container! Stupid move...only it didn't take me as long to recover the 2nd time around.
Megan Is going this morning to the doctor to check for an ear infection and a bladder infection. Too many trips to the bathroom all night long, and a bit of pain convinced us this was her problem. She's had quite a few accidents lately. I've even had to pick her up from school because of it. Suspecting an infection, I asked her if she was in pain, but she always said no. So I looked into "potty watches" online for her. She's had problems with this before, and so I naturally thought this was just another time she was struggling with it. But yesterday, she said it hurt. I gave her some cranberry juice, (improvised from a capsule) and that helped a bit. Then last night she said her ear felt like it got plugged and then it started hurting. So she's going to the doctor. And in a few hours, we soon will see the outcome of this trip.
Jacob - Decided to fall off the coffee table (don't ask me how you actually do that...) on the 11th and landed directly on his cheekbone. (Like I said, it confuses even me.) He ended up with a concussion, a badly bruised cheek, and a small black eye. Thank goodness the bruising is finally gone. However, he has had all 4 front teeth become loose since the new year. I basically lifted his first tooth out Jan. 4th...it was just sitting there. On Jan.20th, he was playing Indiana Jones on the playground at school, running away from the big boulder, (a.k.a. the other school kids) and ran right into some play equipment, completely knocking out one of the top teeth that has been lose. I had to go pick him up from school. With the help of some numbing chloraseptic and my nimble fingers, that tooth came right out. The next day Megan hit him in the face with a bean bag chair and the other top tooth fell out. Mission Complete! His last loose tooth is sitting at about a 45 degree angle, but he won't pull it out or let me anywhere near it. So for that one we wait and hope it doesn't include another catastrophe.
Emma - Decided it was ok to put a penny in her mouth and bit it. She told me the penny hurt her mouth, and that she swallowed it! She kept giving me mixed messages as I tried to ask her what happened...it she swallowed it or spit it out. Google said if a battery or a penny is swallowed then a trip to the emergency room is required, because of highly corrosive zinc in pennies made after 1982. I called poison control to ask what do do and they said to bring her in to a place for an x-ray within 18 hrs. But not having insurance, Michael not being here from working late, we did otherwise. A Priesthood Blessing from Uncle Mike C. helped us realize that all would be well, and we could stop worrying. But then on Jan.27, I went to Price on a High Country Fitness trip with Michael, and Andrea watched our kids for us. Understandably, Emma wouldn't nap for her. So she became wound up as I gathered my kids and took them home. She kept jumping on my bed. I told her to stop jumping, but with her being 2, and my hands busy with Jacob, she ignored me. As she jumped, my bed launched her into the air in a perfect arch, and she perfectly hit the corner of the bedside table. Immediately a bump about 1/2 " popped out of her forehead. I put ice on it and then I panicked, worried sick for my family who strange things keep happening to. However all was well. The bump went down and she never showed signs of a concussion. (Like the coffee table fall did for Jacob...go figure!)

So that's our life! That's what we've been dealing with. That's what we've been experiencing. That's what's going on around here. All this crazy stuff is what seems to be making up our life right now. I'm hoping we have a big change coming soon in our physical maladies. I would love to not go to the doctor any more.
In order to keep myself sane amidst all these catastrophies, I have made a few crafts. Hair bows and hair flowers for my girls, a felt heart wreath for my front door, and a wreath made out of favorite book pages and music for my library. I'm still working on that one. It's helping me relieve all the stress that has been building up. But that's how it is. And sometimes, that's just Lems life!
